APRS AND PSK31 From: "Roger Barker" <roger@peaksys.co.uk> I hardly dare mention the subject again ;-) but I've just uploaded the experimental UI-View32 PSK31 server to the YahooGroups files area for the ui-view-announce list.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ NOTE!! It's psksv100.exe in the PSK31Srv folder. In the same folder is !readme.txt, a copy of which is appended to the end of this message. After uploading psksv100.exe, I downloaded it and compared it to the original, to ensure that it had not become corrupted. If you haven't yet subscribed to the ui-view-announce list, you can do it by sending an email to ui-view-announce-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ui-view-announce/joinRegarding the previous discussion about what frequency to use, I would like to do some tests on 10m, and I definitely think it is better to keep away from the normal PSK31 frequencies. Otherwise hams who are using PSK31 in the normal way may be confused, and possibly annoyed, by our activities. I would prefer to use a frequency around 29MHz, and I will make an initial suggestion of 28.995MHz. For other bands, those who wish to experiment can decide between themselves what frequency to use. ********************************************************************* PSK31Srv - An APRS PSK31 Server PSK31Srv is ***EXPERIMENTAL***. It allows APRS beacons, etc, to be sent using PSK31. It is a TCP/IP server, and the APRS application connects to it as if it was connecting to an internet server. Included with PSK31Srv is a help file, ***PLEASE*** read it before you try and use the server! I cannot emphasise that too strongly! This is not a program that you are going to be able to use without reading the help! (I don't often use exclamation marks, so the fact that there are in this paragraph shows how important I think it is that you read the help!) PSK31Srv was designed to be used with UI-View32, but it should work with any APRS program that can connect to an internet server. However, I haven't tested it with any other programs, and they may not give you as much control as UI-View32 does over what you send to the server. Requirements 1. A PC running Win95 or later, preferably Win98 or later. I would not recommend trying to use it on anything less than a P120. All my tests have been on much faster PCs, and all my tests have been with Win98 or WinME. 2. A 16 bit or better sound card, properly configured for use in Windows. 3. You MUST have UI-View32 installed on the PC. You don't need to be using it, and you don't need to be a registered UI-View user, but PSK31Srv uses some of the run-time support files installed when you install UI-View32. 4. All the rest of the information is in the PSK31Srv help file - so please read it!
