June 2005: Kantronics has released KPC-3+ v9.1, and is making the eprom available to all who own KPC-3+ TNCs for $5.00, unless you bought one since May 1st. Contact Kantronics for details. The KPC-3+ should be upgraded if it is in use as an APRS digipeater. There is no need to purchase the upgrade if you are using a KPC-3+ in home or mobile setting, as the changes are in the digipeater settings only. There is NO upgrade for a KPC-3 v8.2 or v8.3 used as a APRS digipeater. Thus, if you want to support the new paradigm APRS settings May 2005: While we're still sorting out the KPC-3 ver 8.2 programming errors related to UIDIGI processing, word is Kantronics is soon to release the KPC-3Plus ver 9.1 which will continue to support APRS development. The specifics are yet unannounced while beta-testers run the new EPROM through the works. January 2004: The latest version of the KPC-3+ firmware is 9.0, and continues to improve APRS capabilities. Details are available on the CD-ROM shipped with the newest KPC-3 TNCs, or available on the Kantronics web site. Continue to use the recommended settings below for the newest 9.0 version. Sep 98: The latest version of the KPC-3+ firmware (8.3) incorporates new capabilities which allows the TNC to easily switch from stand-alone tracker to mobile APRS station. Along with several new command sets, described here, the major change is where you introduce the GPS signal into the TNC. Instead of inputting data/ground to the DB-25 Pins 2 and 7, respectively, you add the data and ground connections to the DE-9 (radio connector) Pins 2 and 6, respectively. By having the GPS input on the radio connector, this frees the DB-25 serial port for connection to a computer. A new set of instructions comes with the v8.3 firmware upgrade, available from Kantronics free if you've purchased your new KPC-3 Plus since about August 1st. Distributors are just now stocking the KPC-3 Plus v8.3 for shipment to customers. With the new v8.3 you DO NOT set INT to GPS. You must leave INT in the TERMINAL setting.
