Digipeater Site Visit

On August 25, 2005, Jim Reeves/Wa7RVV, Bill Nadwornick/K7CTS and I drove up to Lookout Pass (I-90 ID/MT State Line) to check the antenna, radio and TNC of the Lookout Pass APRS digipeater.

The equipment was all in good shape. We replaced the antenna with one of Jims, so I could recover mine. There may be a .5 db gain from the old to the new.

For now, we're the only radio in this massive, former AT&T microwave relay site, about 6500 feet up. The tower platform used to house eight giant microwave feedhorns used to relay traffic across their network.

We had a great day, far better than the day that Bill and I did the initial install, when it was cold and rainy for the evolution which required a trip to the top of the platform to install the antenna and a solar panel.
