***You can do the same callbook data in UI-View but I don't have all the instructions here. The APRSPoint application callsign lookup feature will connect directly to the database on the internet if a connection is made, so you don't have to download any files. For those folks using WinAPRS, you can download an Amateur Radio callbook database and run it in conjunction with the program. When you double-click on a callsign, you will get the normal position reporting and activity info, plus callbook info including name and address. This comes in handy when you want to send a one-liner to somebody, and would like to include their name. First, download the main database from: ftp://ftp.fcc.gov/pub/Bureaus/Wireless/Databases/uls/complete/l_amat.zip This is the full current database, and it is huge (43MB). New data is added each Monday if you want to keep up with all the changes. After you have downloaded and unzipped the file, the actual data needs to be stored in your \WinAPRS\data\fcc\1_amat subdirectory. You will have to create the fcc\1_amat subdirectories yourself prior to unzipping the data To access the data, start WinAPRS, go to the SETTINGS menu, then CALLBOOK DATABASE menu, then at the top there is a dropdown menu. You pick "FCC 2000 and Later", then you put these settings in the Database Filename: Data\fcc\1_amat\En.datCallbok Index File:Data\fcc\1_amat\EN.idx. After entering these settings at the bottom click the button that is labeled MAKE CALL INDEX, and after that click OK. |
