Configuring a Kenwood TM-D700A or TH-D7A(G) for use with APRS

1. Download a copy of the Kenwood TM-D700A and/or TH-D7A Memory Control Programming (MCP) software from:

http://www.kenwood.net/indexKenwood.cfm?do=ProductDetails&ProdID=5017&Group=5 for D700 mobile

http://www.kenwood.net/indexKenwood.cfm?do=ProductDetails&ProdID=5018&Group=5 for D7A handheld

The software links are at the bottom of these pages.

2. Install and run the software application. Go thru each menu item and configure as necessary.

The NWAPRS recommends an outgoing path of WIDE2-2, or WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2 at once every 1-3 minutes.

When I upload the settings to the radio, I sort the frequencies listed alphabetically. This makes it easy to find freqs based on a name of the area, rather than by frequency, which is harder to remember.

I run APRS on the left side, and VHF/UHF frequencies on the right.

I use the 100 hz carrier tone (CT) on the APRS programmed freq 144.39.
